Cutting the Wood Components

Accurate cutting is crucial for the proper assembly of the cradle. Use a sharp saw and a straight edge for precision. Measure twice, cut once. All cuts should be made square to prevent instability.

Side Panels

• Cut two pieces of 1 x 8" pine to 36" in length. These will form the side panels of the cradle.

Base

• Cut two pieces of 1 x 6" pine to 34" in length. These will form the front and back of the cradle base.
• Cut two pieces of 1 x 6" pine to 26" in length. These will form the sides of the cradle base.

Slats

• Cut seven pieces of 1 x 6" pine to 26" in length. These will serve as the slats for the cradle base, providing support and ventilation.

Headboard and Footboard

• Cut two pieces of 1 x 4" pine to 34" in length for the headboard and footboard.

Support Pieces

• Cut four pieces of 1 x 4" pine to 24" in length. These will support the cradle base and increase stability.
• Cut four pieces of 1 x 4" pine to 32" in length. These pieces connect the headboard/footboard to the sides.

Assembly of the Cradle

Base Construction

Side Panel Attachment

1. Position the base frame between the two side panels, ensuring they are flush.
2. Attach the base to the side panels using wood glue and 1 1/4" wood screws. Reinforce the joints using additional screws if needed.

Headboard and Footboard Attachment

1. Attach the 24" support pieces to the inside of the side panels, positioned to support the cradle base. Use wood glue and 1" wood screws. These form the inner support for the base.
2. Attach the headboard and footboard to the top of the side panels using the 32" support pieces, forming a robust connection and preventing rocking.

Rocker Attachment

1. Attach the cradle rockers to the bottom of the side panels using the appropriate screws and hardware provided with the rockers. Ensure the rockers are securely fastened and provide a gentle rocking motion.

Finishing the Cradle

Once the cradle is fully assembled, it must be thoroughly sanded to remove any splinters, rough edges, or imperfections. Use various grits of sandpaper, starting with coarser grits and gradually moving to finer grits for a smooth finish. After sanding, apply a non-toxic, child-safe wood finish. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Allow the finish to dry completely before placing any bedding inside the cradle.
